This weekend the liturgical readings invite us to abide in God’s love and to love one another. To abide in Jesus means to be united with Jesus and It is in this intimate union with Christ that we find the nourishment and strength to grow in holiness and bear abundant fruit for the Kingdom of God.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own, apart from the vine, we too can do nothing without remaining closely united to Christ (Jn 15:5). Our spiritual vitality and ability to bear good works flow from this abiding relationship. So, let us heed the Lord's invitation to abide in Him and let us remain firmly rooted in Christ, the true vine, so that we may be pruned, purified, and empowered to bear much fruit - the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. For it is only in this way that we can truly fulfill our calling as disciples of Jesus Christ and may we always abide in Him. Our fruitfulness and spiritual vitality depend entirely on our abiding relationship with Christ, the true vine. Through this union, we receive life, love, and grace necessary to bear abundant spiritual fruit and fulfill our Christian calling. Today Jesus invites all of us to abide in his love and to love one another. Abiding is about relationship and the relationships are built on quality of time, communication, love, commitment and appreciation. Jesus says repeatedly, Abide in Me! Remain in Me! Stay connected to Me! What is the meaning of this? abiding in his words and abiding in his love. Abiding in his words and in his love, will help us to grow in intimacy with God. I would like to congratulate all the First Holy Communicants, today the Body and Blood of Christ is united with you and I would like to express my sentiments of gratitude to the DRE, the CCD teachers, the parents, Grandparents, God parents and all those who have helped these children to come this stage of Faith formation. Wherever there is love, there is God and let us ask the Lord to help us to become the Apostles of Love at home, in the working places and wherever we go. Prayer: Loving Jesus, may we be one with you in all that we say and do. Draw us close that we may glorify you and bear fruit for your kingdom. Amen.
