It seems that this joyous time of year can still bring about a certain amount of tension. The gospel of Luke again tells of Jesus who encourages his followers by saying, “Peace be with you.” Jesus needs to reassure his followers because as human and divine, he knows of their fear and anxiety. We heard of it last week, when we encountered Thomas who had his doubts.
Jesus wanted so much to reveal a God who is loving and merciful. It seems so many had fears regarding God. That is still true during this time. We might be encouraged to focus on our sinfulness instead of focusing on the goodness and mercy of an all loving God. Jesus also wanted to help his followers by encouraging them to understand the Scriptures. As they began to understand more fully who Jesus was, they were able to accept their goodness in the eyes of God. May we too as followers of Jesus accept more fully our goodness instead of focusing on our sinfulness. Alleluia, Alleluia.
